Founded in 1919, Wimbledon Common Preparatory School stands before you. It started as a place for local gentry’s children in Wimbledon Village. It was also a preparatory school for King’s College School. This established a tradition of academic excellence.
The Wimbledon Common Preparatory School’s story began humbly. Miss Whiting, described as a sweet and charming lady, was the Principal. The school was first located in the basement and ground floor of 45 High Street. This was its humble start.
In 1957, Wimbledon Common Preparatory School found its permanent home. It acquired a fine building on the Ridgway. The school is opposite King’s College School. This location offers attractive and spacious grounds.
Notice the beautiful large playground. It has trees and an adventure area. This provides a stimulating environment for the boys attending. Wimbledon Common Preparatory School is for boys only.
King’s College School bought Wimbledon Common Preparatory School in June 2006. This cemented their relationship. It strengthened the connection between these institutions. Both are prestigious educational institutions.

Wimbledon Common Preparatory School celebrated its centenary in 2019. Many events marked this milestone. The Friends of Squirrels commissioned a mosaic. Find it at the front of the school. They also planted a tree in the playground. These additions commemorated the anniversary.
