Behold! Before us stands the Corvin Palace. It is more than just a building. It’s a landmark reborn. The Corvin Palace has stood here since 1926. It graces the bustling Blaha Lujza Square.

Originally known as the Corvin Department Store, it quickly became a Budapest icon. Imagine elegant displays. Picture fashion shows and live music filling the air. The Corvin Palace was chic and inviting. It even housed Hungary’s first escalator in 1931. That was a big deal back then.

But the winds of change swept through Budapest. During the socialist era in the 1960s, Blaha Lujza Square faced a major facelift. The Corvin Palace suffered a regrettable modernization. Massive aluminum plates hid its stunning facade. The mythological figures and grand glass windows vanished from sight.

For half a century, the Corvin Palace remained hidden under this disguise. Then, in 2017, a decision was made. The aluminum layer had to go. Renovation began and, by June 2023, the Corvin Palace was back. It regained its former glory and stood tall once more.

The rebirth of the Corvin Palace wasn’t just about aesthetics. It was about reviving a piece of Budapest’s soul. The restoration followed strict regulations, respecting its protected heritage status.

The Corvin Palace now blends retail and office spaces. After its renovation, the building will have a commercial function on three levels and an office function on four levels. They overlap partially on a total of about 16,500 square metres. A panoramic terrace sits on the top floor. It offers culinary and cultural experiences.

Inside, you’ll find a supermarket, a bank, and cafes. A bookshop and a pharmacy are also there for you.

The Corvin Palace boasts modern amenities. There are elevators, escalators, and staircases. The building features a state-of-the-art climate control system. It includes a COVID-sterilant for enhanced safety.

The Corvin Palace offers more than just shopping and office spaces. It provides services such as 24-hour surveillance, bicycle storage, and free WiFi.

Today, the Corvin Palace stands as a symbol. It represents the resilience and reinvention of Budapest. It embodies the innovative vision. The palace also honours its past while embracing the future.

As you explore the Corvin Palace, remember its journey. Consider its transformation from a glamorous department store. Think about the hidden years. Appreciate its grand return. The Corvin Palace is more than just a building. It’s a story etched in stone and glass.
