Completed in 1982, the Santander Tower pierces the Dallas skyline. Originally named Thanksgiving Tower, this 50-story giant was once the second-tallest building in Dallas. It briefly held that title before 1700 Pacific surpassed it a year later. Today, it stands as the 8th tallest, a testament to Dallas’s ever-growing ambition. Santander Tower proudly claims its spot at 1601 Elm Street, right next to Thanks-Giving Square. This modern marvel, designed by HKS Architects, boasts a sleek glass exterior. This design reflects the dynamic energy of the city. The building’s presence is impossible to ignore as it stretches an impressive 197 meters (646 feet) into the sky. Santander Tower isn’t just a beautiful building. It’s also a symbol of change and adaptation. In 2013, Woods Capital rescued the tower from foreclosure and embarked on a $45 million revitalization. This included upgrading the lobbies, plaza, mechanical systems, and common areas. The investment paid off, leading to increased occupancy. More recently, Santander Tower has responded to the shifting landscape of work and living. Twelve of its fifty floors are being converted into 228 residential units. This reflects a growing trend in downtown Dallas. The city center is transforming into a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood. The building now offers a mix of office spaces, on-site dining, a boutique hotel called The Guild, and soon, luxury apartments. This transformation is a testament to the Santander Tower’s enduring relevance in the heart of Dallas.
