It witnessed the Reformation, sheltered French Huguenots, and endured the ravages of war. Bombed in 1943, the Alte Brüderkirche was painstakingly rebuilt and rededicated in 1955. However, with the city’s changing landscape, the old church found itself outside the parish boundaries. The community needed a new space, a new home, closer to its heart. Thus, the Neue Brüderkirche was born, carrying with it cherished pieces of the past. The pews, the organ, even the very name, all migrated to this new space, a tangible link to a rich heritage.
