This sculpture was conceived as part of a larger project that replaced a series of murals destroyed during the construction of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) light rail. The artists behind this work of art, Brad Oldham and Brandon Oldenburg, created “The Traveling Man” to celebrate both the history of rail transportation and the neighborhood’s burgeoning artistic scene. The three sculptures that make up this narrative take you on a journey from awakening to life to walking tall, with each piece showcasing a different aspect of the Traveling Man’s unique existence.
The Sitting Traveling Man, as he is affectionately known, is the second piece in the series. He embodies the spirit of Deep Ellum, a place where art, music, and creativity flow freely.
