The Nash family, originally from Kentucky, moved to Grapevine, Texas in 1859. Now, they’re a family of eight. Thomas, the patriarch, is a war veteran. He, alongside his wife Elizabeth, built this beautiful farm, which is now a treasure trove of Texas history.
The farm started with a humble log cabin, which they replaced with the current, majestic two-story farmhouse in 1880. They had six kids, all of whom were involved in running the farm. The farm was a bustling place where life revolved around agriculture and family. They raised livestock, cattle, hogs, sheep, and chickens. The Nash family was self-sufficient. You can imagine them tilling the soil, growing crops, and tending to the animals.
The family wasn’t just focused on survival. They also cultivated a deep connection to their land and community. The Nash Farm symbolizes the spirit of Texas farming. While Nash now has a large barn, it wasn’t added until 1905. The barn is part of what helps capture the agricultural heritage of the past.
We’re standing in the heart of Grapevine at 626 Ball street. Today, over five acres are kept up as a historic site, allowing us to learn about the life and times of the Nash family. The Grapevine Heritage Foundation preserves this farm and its significance, helping to preserve the legacy of the Nash family.
