In the tranquil embrace of Sembawang Park sits Beaulieu House. Overlooking the Straits of Johor, Beaulieu House stands as a testament to a bygone era. The house dates back to the 1910s. It originally served as a seaside bungalow for a plantation owner. The area around Beaulieu House transformed with the establishment of the Sembawang Naval Base in the 1920s. The house became the residence of Admiral Beaulieu, Chief of Staff of the Royal Navy. A significant portion of what is now Sembawang Park was once part of his expansive garden estate. Beaulieu House is a stunning example of Neo-Classical architecture. The single-story bungalow boasts elegant plaster ornamentation and intricate detailing. A grand portico with a prominent roof supported by simple columns marks the entrance. The rooftop patio is adorned with ornate cast-iron balustrades. A verandah, also with intricate cast-iron railings, stretches along the front of the original structure. Stepping inside, you’ll find preserved decorative details and colorful Staffordshire floor tiles, typical of the period. These elements transport visitors back to the early 20th century. Beaulieu House stands as a prominent landmark in Sembawang Park. Its vantage point offers breathtaking views. It’s a beautiful reminder of Singapore’s colonial past, gazetted for conservation in 2005. Today, visitors can enjoy a meal at the restaurant now housed within Beaulieu House.
