Hidden within the vibrant tapestry of Buenos Aires lies Partido de Ezeiza. It’s a place brimming with history, a testament to Argentina’s rich past. Partido de Ezeiza wasn’t always the bustling hub it is today. In the 1500s, indigenous Querandí tribes roamed these lands, their lives intertwined with the rhythm of hunting and fishing. Fast forward to 1758. Juan Guillermo González y Aragón, the great-grandfather of Argentina’s revered General Manuel Belgrano, established the Estancia “Los Remedios.” This grand estate housed the first chapel near what is now the Ezeiza Atomic Center. The estancia thrived until 1945, when it was expropriated to make way for Ezeiza International Airport. Partido de Ezeiza itself began to take shape in 1885, alongside the neighboring town of Tristán Suárez. The first railway station was built that same year, a generous land donation from the Ezeiza family. Education blossomed with the inauguration of Ezeiza’s first school in 1938. Initially known as School No. 3, now School No. 1, it was established on French Street under the leadership of its first director, Dominga Erramouspe. Originally part of Esteban Echeverría Partido, Partido de Ezeiza gained its independence on October 20, 1994. This marked a pivotal moment, solidifying its identity as a distinct entity within the Greater Buenos Aires area. The legacy of José María Ezeiza, the partido’s namesake, is woven into the fabric of this region. He initially worked the fields of Mar Chiquita before acquiring land in this area and generously donating a portion to establish the first community. Today, Partido de Ezeiza encompasses not only the city of Carlos Spegazzini but also the towns of Tristán Suárez, La Unión, and the area surrounding Ezeiza International Airport, also known as Ministro Pistarini International Airport. The airport itself is a modern marvel, the largest in Argentina and the only one in Latin America serving all five continents. It even boasts Argentina and Latin America’s first airport university, established in 2007. Partido de Ezeiza has transformed into a powerful engine of industry and commerce. It’s home to the Ezeiza Atomic Center, serving oil and metal-mechanic companies. Two industrial parks, Canning and Spegazzini, further fuel its economic growth. Partido de Ezeiza embodies the dynamic spirit of Argentina, a blend of history and progress.
