Pemakaman YLCC or the Yayasan Lembaga Cornelis Chastelein Cemetery is more than just a resting place. It’s a significant part of Depok’s history. These families are the Jonathans Soedira Bacas Laurens Leander Loen Isakh Samuel Jacob Joseph Tholense and Zadokh families.

Within Pemakaman YLCC stands the impressive tomb of Adolf van der Cappelen. It’s over two meters tall. The tomb is a striking monument. It bears inscriptions in Dutch. It’s a family tomb. It houses the remains of Adolf’s family members. The tomb’s size reflects the van der Cappelen family’s standing. Adolf was a relative of a governor-general. The tomb itself is massive. It’s about 2.5 meters deep and 3×3 meters wide. It holds 10 to 15 stacked caskets.

The tombstones tell tales. They include snippets of the deceased’s lives. They also feature Biblical verses. One verse from Hebrews 10:14 is inscribed. It speaks of Jesus’ sacrifice. This practice was common on Dutch tombstones of the era. Adolf’s wife Elise Remisa is also buried here. So are Franz and R.L.J van der Cappelen and Abrahamina van der Cappelen. Their names and life dates are etched in stone. Each tombstone is a personal epitaph. It speaks to the lives they once lived.

The cemetery itself covers a hectare. It’s near the center of Depok. It’s almost full. However new burials still occur. But only after five years have passed since the previous burial. This is a health precaution. The cemetery reflects the close-knit nature of Depok’s community. People want to be buried near their loved ones.
