“Did you know Thornton Heath transformed from a rural outpost to a bustling London suburb? Before the railway arrived in 1862 Thornton Heath centered around Thornton Heath Pond. This pond was 1.5 miles southwest of the Whitehorse manor house. The pond sat on the main London to Sussex road.

Today Thornton Heath is a vibrant district within the London Borough of Croydon. It lies about 1.5 miles north of Croydon. It is also about 7.2 miles south of Charing Cross. Before 1965 Thornton Heath belonged to the County Borough of Croydon.
