“Next stop, Schaan-Vaduz,” the conductor announces. Right here we find ourselves at Bahnhof Schaan-Vaduz. This station serves as one of Liechtenstein’s four gateways by rail. Though named Schaan-Vaduz, it resides in Schaan. It is about 3.5 km from Vaduz. The Austrian Federal Railways owns and operates this station.

Bahnhof Schaan-Vaduz sits on the international Feldkirch-Buchs line. This electrified route links Austria and Switzerland. Regional trains are the only ones stopping here. Think of it as a local connector. It keeps Liechtenstein linked to its neighbors.

Picture this: It’s 1872. The station opens. Back then, rail travel was quite new. It connected Liechtenstein to the wider world. Today, the station still stands. It is a testament to Liechtenstein’s enduring links.

The station building has two stories. A wooden shed stands nearby. There is a platform serving the first track. The second track is rarely used.

Look closely at the platform. See those remnants of a rail line? They are a reminder of freight wagons that once passed through here. These wagons used a dismantled track system.

Today, the Vorarlberg S-Bahn S2 serves Schaan-Vaduz. On weekdays, eleven trains head to Buchs SG. Eleven more go towards Feldkirch. The Austrian Federal Railways, or ÖBB, runs it all.

In Schaan, a damaged barrier once caused traffic delays. This shows how important the railway is to local transport. The incident highlights the need for smooth rail operations.

Getting to Vaduz from Switzerland? Bus number 12 runs every 15 minutes from Buchs. It’s a quick and convenient option. Bus number 11 also connects Schaan station to Sargans and Feldkirch.

If you are collecting passport stamps, remember you can get a Liechtenstein Tourist Office stamp at the Tourist Information office. The cost was 3 Swiss Franc in July 2013. This is unique because there are no border crossings in Liechtenstein.

Vaduz itself may lack an old-world feel. However, Schaan-Vaduz station is a crucial transport hub. It is conveniently located in the middle of the town.

So, as we stand here at Bahnhof Schaan-Vaduz, remember its role. It is a small station, but its connections are mighty. It links Liechtenstein to a broader network. This allows both people and goods to pass through this tiny nation. From here, you can explore all that Liechtenstein offers.
