Universidade Castelo Branco’s story began in 1963. It started as a small primary school in Realengo. This humble beginning mirrored the urbanization of the Zona Oeste. A decade later in 1973, the Faculdade de Educaçao, Ciências e Letras Marechal Castelo Branco was founded. Soon after, the first higher education courses were authorized. The Faculdade de Educação Física da Guanabara began operating that same year.
In 1976, these two merged. They formed the Faculdades Integradas Castelo Branco FICAB. By the 1980s, FICAB expanded its offerings. Mathematics, Pedagogy, and other courses were added.
The Gissoni family envisioned a comprehensive university. In 1990, they began the transformation of FICAB. The goal was the creation of Universidade Castelo Branco. The official installation of UCB occurred in 1995. New buildings were erected. The sports center strengthened its leading position and teaching quality.
UCB expanded in the following years. New campuses and units opened across Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. The university aimed to provide quality education nationwide.
