In 1954, a beacon of faith ignited in San Francisco with the founding of the Greater Calvary Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The church’s first pastor, Reverend Charlie Moore, guided the congregation through its early years, eventually leading them to a new home at 101 Vista Grande Avenue in Daly City. Calvary Hill Community Church continued to grow and evolve under Reverend Dr. Charlie Hamilton. He spearheaded the church’s involvement in local and national Baptist conventions. He also established a respected educational program. After Reverend Hamilton’s passing in 1995, a young Reverend Joseph Bryant, Jr. took the helm at just 26 years old. Reverend Bryant brought a fresh vision to Calvary Hill Community Church. He led the church through a period of remarkable growth, increasing its membership from 100 to over 500 between 1996 and 2000. This expansion led to the momentous decision to “Take the City”. Calvary Hill Community Church relocated to its current location in San Francisco. This ambitious move included purchasing and renovating a $5 million facility. Today, Calvary Hill Community Church thrives with over 1,500 members. It stands as a testament to the dedication and vision of its leaders and congregation.
