The story of Furesø Rådhus is one of connection. It is a story of bringing people together. The new town hall combines the previous town halls of the municipality into one. This unification improves service for citizens. It also creates a better work environment for employees. The building itself acts as a symbolic bridge. It represents the merging of Farum and Værløse municipalities in 2007.
Interestingly, Furesø Rådhus has a unique feature. It is a multisal instead of a traditional council chamber. This space is for politicians and municipal employees. Citizens can also use it. The multisal reflects the town hall’s purpose. It is meant to be the house of the citizens. It stays open late. People can use the multisal and meeting rooms. They can even do this after normal working hours. Because of this, Furesø Rådhus has earned another name. It is also known as Borgernes Hus. This means the Citizens House.
The architectural design of Furesø Rådhus is thoughtful. It blends the old with the new. The original building has been renovated. It features a new main entrance and staircase. An addition creates a seamless connection. This addition acts like a ribbon. It ties together the existing structures. This unites all functions into one cohesive town hall. During construction, employees worked temporarily in Farum.
Outside, the building has two different facades. The older facade has been updated. The new facade faces the parking area and sports halls. A unique “urban shelf” runs along this facade. This creates a transition zone. Niches, benches, bicycle parking, and climbing plants decorate the facade. This makes the building inviting. The niches and wooden slats act as natural sunshades.
Furesø Rådhus has two entrances. One is at the front. The other is at the back. A thoroughfare connects these entrances. This runs through a large open square. This is Rådhustorvet or the Town Hall Square. The passage connects the town center. It also connects the sports halls on the other side.
The Town Hall Square is located between the old and new buildings. It acts as an atrium. It features 500 square meters of skylights. These skylights let in natural light. Environmentally conscious features are visible throughout Furesø Rådhus. The building uses a nice waste sorting system. This system is even in the five kitchenettes.
Furesø Rådhus also offers free guided tours. These tours showcase the building’s sustainability features. These features include material choices, ventilation, and rainwater reuse. The building also uses climate control and solar energy.
Furesø Rådhus also provides meeting rooms for local associations. There are nine meeting rooms available. They can accommodate up to 20 people. Each room has a screen or projector. Local artists also display their work at Furesø Rådhus.
