“Imagine a small chapel nestled on Ngaire Avenue. It is a beacon of faith since 1925. This is Ngaire Avenue Chapel Church.
Ngaire Avenue Chapel Church has a rich history. It is a story of community, evolution and spiritual growth. The story began long before this chapel stood here. It started in 1883 in Parnell. The church then moved to this site in 1925. Here a dedicated chapel was built.
For over 120 years Ngaire Avenue Chapel Church has been planting churches. It supported missionaries both locally and overseas. This chapel has deep roots. It is more than just bricks and mortar.
Now, let’s jump to more recent times. In 1995, another chapel, Sylvia Park Chapel needed help. Elders from Ngaire Avenue Chapel Church responded. They sent a team to rekindle the flame at Sylvia Park. This shows the giving nature of the Ngaire Avenue Chapel Church.
From this collaboration, a new fellowship emerged. It was intended to be a new creation. It was not just a copy of either Ngaire Avenue or Sylvia Park. Three couples from Ngaire Avenue Church moved to Sylvia Park. They got involved with the community there.
In 1996, Sylvia Park Chapel held its last service under that name. Then Mt Wellington Community Church was born. This new church shows the dedication of Ngaire Avenue Chapel Church. It is willing to support and nurture other communities.
But the story of Ngaire Avenue Chapel Church doesn’t end there. In August 2020, Ngaire Avenue Bible Church merged with Auckland Bible Church. Auckland Bible Church was established in 1991. It aimed to faithfully teach God’s word.
The merger combined the resources of both congregations. They believed they could achieve more together. This union enabled new ministries to flourish. They shared values and a mission to make God’s name known.
Auckland Bible Church had occupied various locations before. These locations were in Greenlane, Penrose and Epsom. In 2010, it moved to a purpose-built auditorium on Great South Road. This shows their growth and commitment.
Before the merger, Ngaire Avenue Bible Church had a strong history. It had a tradition of planting churches. It also supported local and overseas missionaries. The merger strengthened these efforts.
Today, the legacy of Ngaire Avenue Chapel Church continues. Auckland Bible Church carries on its mission. It seeks to transform lives one person at a time. They depend on God. Their focus is on spiritual transformation. They train people to serve their communities. They want to share Christ-like love.
