A sprawling green space welcomes you. This is East Ringwood Reserve. It’s more than just a park. It’s a living testament to Ringwood East’s rich history.
Imagine picnics and gymkhanas. Picture lively sports matches on these very grounds. Back in the 1880s East Ringwood Recreation Reserve hosted such joyful events. The land was a bustling hub long before the current amenities. This wasn’t always a park. The area saw mining activity in the 19th century. Miners dug deep shafts searching for gold and antimony. Some shafts plunged over 100 meters into the earth. The mining boom fuelled businesses and a school. Then declining prices and water issues ended the mining era.
The reserve holds a special place for the local community. The East Ringwood Roos Australian Rules football team plays here. They even have a new $2.8 million pavilion. This modern building provides space for the East Ringwood Football and Cricket Clubs. The Chin Community Victoria also uses the pavilion. It’s a true community hub. The reserve also boasts two ovals. Oval 1 measures roughly 420 meters. Oval 2 is slightly smaller at about 340 meters.
The park is dog-friendly but there are rules. Leashes are required on the main oval and near playgrounds. Keep your furry friends on a leash within 15 meters of picnic areas. That includes organised sporting events too.
