Te Wharau / Malua Bay Campground is located on the secluded Te Wharau. It is also known as Malua Bay. This campground features flat and undulating grass terraces. A notable feature of Te Wharau / Malua Bay Campground is two large poplars. They are known as Baileys Hammock.

Te Wharau / Malua Bay Campground was developed as a sea kayak-based campground. It serves those paddling along the Te Ara Moana kayak trail. Imagine arriving by kayak. You set up camp on the grass terraces. The poplars offer shade and a beautiful backdrop.

Be aware that an archaeological site sits next to Te Wharau / Malua Bay Campground. Camping in this area is prohibited. Please respect this sensitive site. A short walk south along the coast will connect you to the park’s track network.

Let’s talk practicalities at Te Wharau / Malua Bay Campground. The maximum number of people allowed is 20. Stays are limited to two nights. Check-in time is 11 am and check-out is 11 am. As for cost, adults are $10.00 per night. Children cost $4.50. Infants stay free. Bookings are essential. You can book your accommodation online.
