The Stritch School of Medicine Cuneo Center wasn’t always what it is today. Back when it was built, the Cuneo Center introduced a new idea. This idea was small group learning. Today, the Cuneo Center continues to evolve. It anticipates the needs of current and future students.

Inside the Stritch School of Medicine Cuneo Center you’ll find learning clusters. They are designed to accommodate different educational formats. Students can study and take online exams. Each student space has dedicated computers. The Stritch School of Medicine Cuneo Center has large lecture halls. One hall seats 150. Another seats 200. Case Method Rooms each seat 78 students. Sessions can be broadcast remotely. This allows for larger groups to participate.

Wireless connectivity is available throughout the Stritch School of Medicine Cuneo Center. Wired computers are also located throughout the building. The Computer Assisted Learning Lab or CALL gives students access to important resources. These resources include the Loyola University Medical Education Network or LUMEN and the Health Sciences library. Students also have access to email and the internet.

Sixteen smaller seminar rooms accommodate 10 to 12 people. These rooms are used for small group sessions. Students can also use them as study space. The learning spaces align with Stritch pedagogy. This includes increasing the number of seminar rooms. This facilitates small group learning. It also increases study space for students.

The lower level houses laboratories for dissection and prosection activities. In 2009, the Center for Simulation Education was created. It includes the Stamm Procedural Training Center and Bedside Teaching Lab. There is also an Advanced Procedure Education Center. The Selfridge Clinical Skills Center has patient exam rooms. These rooms simulate an ambulatory experience. Standardized patients are used. A range of educational innovations are available within the Cuneo Center. These facilities support clinical learning. They integrate basic science education. They also support assessment and team-based learning.

The building’s centerpiece is a second-floor atrium. It’s surrounded by student communities. Student Affairs Admissions and computer labs are located here. You can also find the Bursar and Financial Aid offices here. Registration and Records the Academic Center for Excellence and Accessibility or ACE and Campus Ministry are also in this area.

All candidates for the Doctor of Medicine degree are automatically enrolled in the Fitness Center. It is adjacent to Stritch. Students faculty staff and community members use this facility for wellness and exercise. It’s understood that “care for the whole person” is important to overall well-being.

In 2001, Loyola honored John and Herta Cuneo. The building was renamed the John and Herta Cuneo Center. The Stritch School of Medicine Cuneo Center is more than just a building. It’s a place of learning community and well-being.
