The name Guangopolo itself holds a captivating story. It combines “Guango” meaning “Princess” and “Pulu” meaning “Prince” in Quichua. This reflects the rich indigenous heritage of the region. The area was once part of the Quitus-Caras tribe. Guangopolo’s history is woven into the very fabric of Quito.
Initially Guangopolo was part of the Tumbaco parish. Later it joined Conocoto. It eventually gained its independence on November 11 1953 becoming its own parish.
