How does one encapsulate the spirit of a legend on a single wall? Look around you at the Prince Crying Doves Mural. This isn’t just paint on concrete. It’s a love letter to Minneapolis’ own Prince. The mural depicts Prince in three distinct eras of his career. The young, ambitious artist with the signature afro. The electrifying performer we know from Purple Rain, complete with his iconic guitar. Finally, a wiser, more introspective Prince gazes out, a halo-like glow around him. The mural was unveiled on what would have been Prince’s 64th birthday, a poignant reminder of his enduring impact. The artist, Hiero Veiga, was specially chosen from a pool of 60 artists worldwide for his ability to capture Prince’s artistry and universal appeal. The “Crown Our Prince” project, as it was known, was a testament to the love the city had for its native son. The mural stands not only as a memorial but also as a source of inspiration. It reminds us that even amidst the concrete jungle, there’s room for creativity, individuality, and a whole lot of purple.
