Established in 2009 Ormiston Park Academy stands proudly. It wasn’t always known by that name though. This very spot once held Aveley County Technical High School. Opened in 1957 it initially accommodated 660 students. In 1968 it merged with Grays County Technical High School. Frederick F Harsant became the Headmaster of this combined institution. This merger was short-lived. The Grays campus joined Grays Park School in 1971. Aveley Technical closed the following year. It merged with Palmer’s Boys and Girls Schools forming Palmer’s College.
The Aveley School found a new home. It moved to the former Aveley Technical site in 1976. By 2004 it was Aveley Secondary School. In 2007 it became Belhus Chase Specialist Humanities College. Tess Walker served as Headteacher. The school closed on August 31 2009. The next day it reopened as Ormiston Park Academy. Ms Walker continued as Principal until 2014. Huw Derrick then took the helm. He retired in 2019 after a long career in education. Mark Roessler succeeded him. He was later replaced by Vice Principal Humayun Rashid.
Ormiston Park Academy has a rich history. It has evolved from its humble beginnings as a technical high school. It is now a thriving secondary school and academy. Its current principal Munira Said leads the school. Jodie Hassan serves as Executive Principal. They work together to ensure Ormiston Park Academy continues to provide quality education. They emphasize their PARK values: Perseverance Aspiration Responsibility and Knowledge. The Academy’s commitment is evident. It aims to provide a rich educational experience. Every student receives support to make excellent progress. Ormiston Park Academy’s journey reflects its dedication. It strives to be the best it can be for all its students.
