“This is the only community-focused facility of its kind in Scotland” These words resonated deeply as I stood before the Energy Training Academy in Edinburgh. This wasn’t just a building it was a beacon of hope a testament to innovation and community spirit.
The Energy Training Academy is Scotland’s newest LCL Awards-approved training centre. It’s housed in a transformed 12000 square foot warehouse. The academy offers a state-of-the-art facility built over two floors. Interactive training areas showcase renewables like heat pumps and solar energy. Bespoke theory rooms are equipped with the latest technology for unique learning experiences.
Initially the academy will offer gas safety courses both domestic and commercial. Water safety and LPG courses will also be available. CCN1 assessments are already underway. Renewable energy courses and a managed learning programme are coming soon. Ian and Carolynn Edgeworth oversee this facility. Ian is the technical director. Carolynn manages the office and acts as the lead internal verifier.
The academy has a dedicated space for gas engineers to take their Accredited Certification Scheme ACS exams. Four additional bays replicate a home environment. These bays include boilers gas fires underfloor piping and attic space for practical training. The academy’s founders Mark Glasgow and Andrew Lamond had a vision. They wanted to create a community-focused facility to address the skills shortage in the gas and renewables sector. They believe investing in the community creates a safer and more sustainable future.
The Energy Training Academy is more than just a training center. It’s a social enterprise. It will eventually cater to youngsters hoping for professional qualifications. The academy has partnered with Daikin UK and Octopus Energy Group. This collaboration expands the academy’s reach and opportunities. It also helps meet the UK Government’s target of 600000 heat pump installations by 2028.
As you stand here today consider the impact of this facility. It’s a testament to community effort. It’s helping to shape a brighter more sustainable future for Scotland and beyond. The Energy Training Academy isn’t just training people. It’s empowering them. It’s building a better tomorrow one student at a time.
