One of the tallest Buddha statues in Sri Lanka, it commands attention, visible from almost every corner of Kandy. The temple itself was established in 1972, a relatively recent addition to Kandy’s rich tapestry of history. The iconic Buddha statue, however, wasn’t completed until 1992, two decades later.
