Originally envisioned by Crown Prince Frederick IV, Frederiksberg Slot began as a modest, single-story summer house in 1699. Inspired by Italian architecture, Frederick IV transformed the original building. It became a magnificent three-story structure, radiating the splendor of Italian Baroque style. The palace continued to evolve, with later additions encircling the courtyard, giving Frederiksberg Slot its current imposing form. Within these walls, history unfolded. Frederick IV spent many joyful summers at Frederiksberg Slot. He even hosted Tsar Peter the Great of Russia in 1716. In a more personal moment, the palace witnessed Frederick IV’s marriage to Anne Sophie Reventlow. This event followed shortly after the death of his first wife, Queen Louise. Another royal resident, King Christian VII, along with Queen Caroline Mathilde, graced Frederiksberg Slot with their presence. Their son, the future Frederick VI, cherished the palace, residing there both as crown prince and king. Today, Frederiksberg Slot houses the Royal Danish Military Academy.
