The Iglesia ni Cristo Central Temple stands proudly. It’s located on Commonwealth Avenue. It’s part of a massive complex. The complex includes offices and even a university. The temple itself is a testament to faith. Its Neo-Gothic design is stunning. Twenty-two spires reach towards the heavens. They symbolize the faithful reaching out to God.
Architect Carlos A Santos-Viola designed the temple. He was a brilliant architect. He was also a devout Catholic. He was known for his modernist approach to Gothic and Baroque styles. He designed many churches across the Philippines. His work is a blend of tradition and modernity.
The temple wasn’t built overnight. It took years of planning and construction. It was finally completed in 1984. Fifteen years after the Central Office was finished. Inside the main hall you will find seating for 3000. Two side chapels accommodate another 1900. A ground floor sanctuary has space for 2000 more. It even has a huge baptistery. It can hold up to 600 people for simultaneous baptisms.
In 2014 a remarkable addition was made. A massive pipe organ was installed. This 20-ton instrument features 3162 pipes. It’s a truly impressive feat of engineering. This was a gift made to celebrate the temple’s 30th anniversary.
