The Reformationsmonument Obelisk is located on Bispetorv in central Copenhagen. Bispetorv is in the Latin Quarter. The monument’s story began in 1936. A committee was formed to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Reformation. Bishop Hans Fuglsang-Damgaard chaired the committee. Sculptor Max Andersen and architect Harald Lønborg-Jensen were chosen to design the monument. The Reformationsmonument Obelisk was unveiled on June 6, 1943.

The rear relief illustrates the ordination of the first evangelical bishops. This event took place in Copenhagen’s Church of Our Lady on September 2, 1537.

The right-hand relief shows a Danish church service. Peder Palladius leads the service. He was known for delivering sermons in Danish.
