Perhaps you are seeking a green escape in Lyon’s 3rd arrondissement. You have arrived at Parc Sisley. This park offers a refreshing break from the urban hustle.
Parc Sisley spans roughly one hectare. That is about 10000 square meters. The City of Lyon purchased this land in 1975. It was once a private estate. The city then transformed it into the public garden we see today.
Once upon a time, this area belonged to the Vulliod-Ancel dye factory. The factory owners’ grand house stood here at 7 and 9 Rue de Montbrillant. Economic pressures forced the sale of the house and garden. The original house is no longer standing.
Later, the carpentry workshops and a workers’ house were sold. Charles de Foucault school acquired them. The industrial site finally closed in 1996.
D. Fontaine designed Parc Sisley. He included a variety of trees. Look around. You will spot oaks, plane trees, catalpas, and lindens. Chestnut trees and a Chinese raisin tree also call this park home.
The park offers more than just trees. You can find a boulodrome here. It is perfect for a game of pétanque. There is also a play area for children. This makes Parc Sisley a family-friendly destination.
Parc Sisley underwent renovations in 2016. In 2017, community gardening planters were installed. This allows residents to participate in growing plants.
The park is open daily. You can visit from 8 AM to 7 PM. During May to September, it stays open until 10 PM.
