From a humble 159 meters to a towering 231 meters, the Tour First’s journey is a testament to ambition. This skyscraper, formerly known as Tour AXA and before that Tour UAP, stands proudly in La Défense, Paris’s bustling business district. The original 1974 structure, designed by Pierre Dufau, resembled a three-pointed star. This symbolized the merger of three insurance companies that birthed the UAP. The star-shaped Tour AXA held its own for decades. Then, a dramatic transformation began in 2007. Instead of demolition, the owners, AXA Real Estate and later Beacon Capital Partners, opted for a bold reinvention. The old tower was stripped down. A new tower was built around the existing metal framework. The result is the Tour First we see today. This architectural marvel showcases a glass facade, reaching 52 stories with a sleek, modern design. The renovation wasn’t just about aesthetics. KONE’s Destination Control System optimizes elevator traffic flow, almost doubling the building’s capacity. This addressed the previous lunchtime rush hour congestion. Today, the Tour First accommodates major tenants like Ernst & Young and Euler Hermes. It provides 80,000 square meters of floor space. The Tour First is more than just the tallest skyscraper in France. It’s a symbol of innovation, a phoenix rising from its own ashes to dominate the Parisian skyline.
