Here at MALBA Puertos, art meets nature in a unique embrace. This is not just another museum. It’s a satellite space of the renowned Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires.
MALBA Puertos opened its doors in 2024. It is located in Escobar, about 50 km from the original museum. Eduardo F. Costantini founded it. The opening was a grand affair. Around 1,000 special guests attended.
This new venue aims to connect art with new audiences. It especially focuses on the communities in its area. MALBA Puertos offers a versatile and inclusive exhibition space. Spanish architect Juan Herreros designed it.
MALBA Puertos comprises five distinct spaces. These include indoor and outdoor areas. You’ll find the Salas del Bosque and Sala Chaile here. Also, there is the Reserva Técnica, Sala del Lago, and Circuito de Arte Público.
The Circuito de Arte Público is particularly striking. It features over twenty pieces. They are spread across the 200-hectare Central Lake. The circuit also includes the Reserva Natural on the Luján River. These artworks transform the landscape. They create communal spaces for everyone.
The opening featured several exhibitions. “La vida que explota” showcases sculptures by Gabriel Chaile. These were presented at the Venice Biennale in 2022. Textile works by Claudia Alarcón and the Silät weaving collective are also featured. “Ensayos naturales (I)” presents a dialogue between Mondongo and Luis Ouvrard. “Acto reflejo” features watercolors by Amadeo Azar. These relate MALBA’s collection to local flora and fauna. “Mueble escultura” displays pieces where art and functional objects merge.
MALBA Puertos extends beyond art exhibitions. It offers various free workshops. These are open to visitors of all ages. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.
For those planning a visit, remember a few tips. Wear comfortable shoes and bring sunscreen. Mosquito repellent is also a good idea. To protect the artwork, food, drinks, and animals aren’t allowed inside. Large items must be stored in lockers. Photos are permitted, but no flash please.
MALBA Puertos also provides excellent facilities. There’s on-site parking with accessible spaces. You’ll find accessible restrooms. Lockers are available. Bicycle racks are also provided.
MALBA Puertos is open from Tuesday to Sunday. The hours are 12 PM to 7 PM. Admission is free.
