A church born from humble beginnings. This is the Church of God in Christ in London. Right here before you stands a testament to faith resilience and the power of community.

In the late 1940s Caribbean immigrants arrived in England. Finding it difficult to integrate into established churches they formed their own. Small groups gathered to pray and worship. This was the birth of COGIC UK. It started in the McLachlan family home with a few friends. They rented a hall in Brixton. The church grew rapidly.

A pivotal moment came in 1952. Bishop Charles Harrison Mason founder of the Church of God in Christ International in the USA visited London. He attended the World Pentecostal Conference. This visit opened a path to affiliation with the international church in 1957. Revd Oswald McLachlan became the first Jurisdictional Bishop of COGIC (Calvary) in the UK.

Later Bishop McLachlan returned to the Caribbean. Bishop Robert Clifford Bell took over leadership. He served until his death in 1998. Revd Alvin Blake succeeded him. He continues to lead the church to this day. Bishop Blake is also the pastor of the Luton COGIC assembly. This serves as the main headquarters for the church in England.
