In 1960, amidst the bustling city of Hammond, Indiana, the Former Donald E. Gavit Middle/High School first opened its doors. The Former Donald E. By the 2017-2018 school year, the Former Donald E. Gavit Middle/High School had a diverse student body. African Americans represented 38.7%, Hispanics 38.3%, multiracial students 3.6%, and Caucasians 19.1%. A significant 78.7% of the students qualified for free or reduced lunch, highlighting the economic challenges faced by many families in the area. The Former Donald E. Gavit Middle/High School offered grades 6-12, accommodating a large student population. In the 2019-2020 school year, the enrollment reached 1,557 students, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 18.10.
