The Kent Road Congregation, formerly the Kent Road Methodist Church, wasn’t always here. Its roots trace back to humble beginnings in 1910. Methodist services were first held in a home on the corner of Giles and Pleasant Streets. A small church was later built further down Pleasant Street in 1911. Fast forward to 1959, and a new chapter began. The Pleasant Street Methodist Church merged with Westbreen Methodist Church. This union led to the construction of the Kent Road Methodist Church on land generously donated by Miss Catherine Breen. Interestingly, the land was the former site of the Westbreen Bus Depot. This new church, now the Kent Road Congregation, became a hub for the community.
The Kent Road Congregation has strong ties to Pascoe Vale South Uniting Church. After the church union in 1977, the Balmoral Avenue Methodist Church, part of the same Methodist circuit as Kent Road, closed. Its members joined the former St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, which later became Pascoe Vale South Uniting Church. This shared history connects these two congregations. Today, the Kent Road Congregation continues to serve its community. Messy Church, a unique form of worship, is held here. It offers crafts, games, music, and a community meal. It’s a testament to the church’s commitment to inclusivity and all-age worship. While regular Sunday services are no longer held at Kent Road, the spirit of community and faith continues to thrive through Messy Church and hall hire.
