Hampton Wick Baptist Church is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a place where faith, friendship, and family intertwine. This church welcomes people as they are. It embraces their needs and imperfections. There is no pressure here. Newcomers can take things at their own pace. They need time to feel they belong. Only then can they believe.
Sandra Kimber leads Hampton Wick Baptist Church. Nearly 50 years ago, God called her to serve in Nigeria. It meant sacrifice. She left family, friends, home, and culture. But it was a rich time of growth.
Sandra once posed a question. “Am I linked to the church where God wants me to serve?” She noted many small churches need help. Some struggle and may even face closure. They lack the resources to continue.
Hampton Wick Baptist Church knows this struggle firsthand. Over the years, it was told four times to close. But one preacher called it “a small church with a beating heart.” So, they pressed on praying for help.
Then came Grantham Wash. He was inducted as pastor of Hampton Wick Baptist Church. This might not sound strange. But the church had only eight members. Its congregation numbered about 15. Grantham was a youth pastor in California. He preached to hundreds each week. Only God could do that!
Grantham felt a call to ministry. Strangely, his organization’s debrief was held at Hampton Wick Baptist Church. He didn’t realize he was visiting the church he would later lead.
The church had been praying for people to come and help them. The previous minister wondered why people went overseas but not down the road.
Grantham flew from California to preach. The church in California confirmed his call. They are supporting Hampton Wick Baptist Church in many ways.
Grantham arrived. He baptized four people. One was from England. One was from the Middle East. One was from Ghana. One was from Zimbabwe. A truly international event!
Hampton Wick Baptist Church may be small. But it has vision. It also has a clear sense of God’s purpose. It’s a place where anyone can find a place to belong. It offers friendship and faith. It is a church with a big heart.
