Here stands New Birth Ministries, a beacon of faith in Seattle’s Skyway area. This bible believing church wins souls for Christ. It does so through evangelism, community outreach, service, and education.
Since 2001, New Birth Ministries has been a vital part of this community. The church welcomes all of God’s people. They come to worship, serve, and share in the name of Jesus. Eld. Dr. Maynard G. Sopher and Carolyn Sopher lead this congregation.
The Sopher family has deep roots in music. For over 30 years, they have traveled the country. They participated in praise and worship with the Church of God in Christ Inc. Their dedication to ministry is truly inspiring.
New Birth Ministries started small. It began at a community center in central Seattle. About a dozen members attended then. Most were the children and families of Dr. and Sis. Sopher.
As the fellowship grew, the community center became too small. A new location was needed. They found a building in the Skyway district. It was a former tavern that had gone out of business. It did not seem like it could accommodate a church.
Dr. Sopher had faith in God. The building was purchased in 1999. Remodeling began soon after. People in the community donated materials. They shared the vision for this unchurched neighborhood.
The Sophers invested their savings and personal resources. They wanted to create a place for the Skyway community. Volunteers and members worked tirelessly. They transformed the unlikely building into a beautiful place of worship.
Since then, New Birth Ministries has flourished. The membership and leadership have grown. Many new and exciting departments have been added. The church is a testament to faith and community spirit.
New Birth Ministries believes in the Bible as the inspired Word of God. They believe in one God. He exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
The church believes in the rapture of the Church of God at Christ’s return. They believe that repentance and faith in Jesus Christ cleanse sin. Regeneration by the Holy Ghost is essential for salvation.
New Birth Ministries believes that Christ’s work on the cross heals the human body. This happens in answer to believing prayer. The baptism in the Holy Ghost is given to believers who ask. The Holy Ghost enables Christians to live a holy life.
