The Jardin des Curiosités is more than just a park. It’s a testament to the enduring friendship between Lyon and Montreal. Given as a present to mark twenty years of cooperation. It opened in 2001. Designed by talented Montrealers. The park boasts 6000 square meters of beauty.
Walk along the gently curving path. You’ll discover themed areas. A grassy expanse edged with trees. It offers a breathtaking perspective on the Lycée de Saint-Just. Beyond lies a sandy terrace. It echoes the reddish hue of Lyon’s rooftops.
A charming little bridge mirrors Montreal’s Jacques-Cartier Bridge. It spans the Saint-Laurent River. This little bridge is a delightful nod to the city’s benefactor. A low wall encloses another area. It frames a panoramic view of southern Lyon. A sloped wooded section sits to the north.
Six sculpted chairs are embedded in the ground. They are the work of Quebecois sculptor Michel Goulet. They add a poetic touch. Their inscriptions inspire contemplation. They invite reflection on reality absence and imagination.
One inscription reads “From the heights of Lyon at the edge of sight one can sometimes see more than 150 kilometers away where the sun rises the summit of Mont Blanc”.
