Established in 1974 the Islamic Centre Edgware serves the Muslim community in Edgware and beyond. It’s a registered charity dedicated to spiritual and welfare needs. For many years the Centre held Friday and Eid prayers at the Watling Community Centre. This was before they had their own building.
The Islamic Centre Edgware faced challenges. Their initial property on Beverley Drive was unsuitable. Brent Council didn’t allow its use as a mosque. So for over twenty years they had to rely on the Watling Community Centre. Undeterred the trustees and volunteers persevered. They raised money and searched for a suitable site.
Their perseverance paid off. In 2007 they acquired a former motorcycle workshop. This was on Deansbrook Road in Edgware. The transformation was substantial. It involved demolishing existing buildings. Then they constructed a two-storey centre. This new facility provides space for men and women.
Getting planning permission took years. The London Borough of Barnet had to be consulted. Local councillors offered valuable support. Finally in 2012 permission was granted. Construction began soon after. The Islamic Centre Edgware officially opened on March 25 2016.
The centre’s story is one of dedication. It reflects the unwavering faith of its community. The mosque stands as a testament to perseverance. It’s a place of worship and community. It’s a place where prayers are offered and where the community gathers. The Islamic Centre Edgware is a vital part of Edgware’s fabric. It welcomes all and continues to serve its community faithfully.
