Marvelous isn’t it? This very building the Hôtel de Ville de Vanves stands proudly before you. Its elegant façade hints at a rich history a story woven through centuries of Vanves’s life.

The Hôtel de Ville de Vanves is more than just a town hall. It’s a silent witness to Vanves’s evolution. Its current form dates back to 1898. That’s when the town commissioned a new building to serve as the canton’s capital. Before that though Vanves’ municipal seat had a more humble beginning. It was housed in a building next to the Saint-Rémy church. Then in 1857 a modest town hall was constructed by architect Claude Naissant. That stood on what is now Rue Antoine-Fratacci. An annex even existed on Rue Louis-Dardenne acquired in 1884.

This two-story building we see today boasts a central pediment topped with a clock. A grand double-ramped staircase leads to the entrance. The roof is covered in slate. It’s not just the architecture though that makes it special. The Hôtel de Ville de Vanves is adorned with remarkable artwork. Jean Enders decorated its interior. Henri Gaston Darien painted scenes from Vanves’ history on the walls of the festivity hall. Even Paul Schmitt created sketches though they never came to fruition. And a bust of Marina Tsvetaeva sculpted by Andrei Tyrtyshnikov graces the entrance hall.

Can you imagine the countless meetings the countless decisions made within these walls? The echoes of laughter and debate the weight of history hanging in the air. This isn’t just a building of bricks and mortar. It is a living testament to Vanves’ resilience and growth. It is a repository of memories.

The Hôtel de Ville de Vanves is far more than just a municipal building. It’s a symbol of a community. A community that has persevered through time. It’s a symbol of the town’s identity and its ongoing story. The story of Vanves is written in stone in paint in the very fabric of this impressive structure. Take a moment to appreciate the silent story the Hôtel de Ville de Vanves holds. It is a story worth listening to.
