Only in 1765 did Abbé Clément secure the necessary permits for construction. Finally the street we see today took shape. Rue de Gramont attracted a diverse clientele. Number 2 housed Antoine de Tounens the self-proclaimed king of Araucania and Patagonia in 1873. The renowned tailor Gaetan Lo Méo operated his ateliers at number 26 from 1926 to 1968. His elegant creations undoubtedly graced many a Parisian social event. But Rue de Gramont is also marked by more somber events. In 1945 a tragic murder occurred. A wine representative Haïm Cohen was abducted tortured and killed. The Cercle de la Rue de Grammont was a pioneering Parisian club modeled after British examples. Though short lived it left its mark on Parisian society.
