Did Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Chapel always stand here, a beacon of faith in Manila? No. This present structure, within the Adamson University compound in Ermita, rose from the ashes of its predecessor. The original Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Chapel, built in 1912 to commemorate 50 years of Vincentian presence in the Philippines, was destroyed during World War II. The very image of Our Lady enshrined within, brought from France, perished in the flames. But faith, like the medal itself, is two-sided. On one side, destruction and loss. On the other, renewal and hope. The current image, crafted by Maximo Vicente, now graces the altar, a testament to the enduring spirit of the devotion. The original chapel, built in 1883, first housed the image brought from France. It quickly became the epicenter of the Miraculous Medal devotion in Manila. The current chapel, built on this sacred ground, continues this legacy. It serves not only as a place of worship but also the headquarters of the Miraculous Medal Apostolate. This group dedicates itself to spreading the devotion throughout the Philippines. This devotion, rooted in the apparitions to St. Catherine Laboure in Paris, promises graces to those who wear the medal with confidence. It’s a devotion deeply intertwined with the Vincentians, who brought it to the Philippines in 1862. The Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Chapel is a place where the past and present intertwine. It stands as a reminder of resilience, faith, and the enduring power of prayer.
