Haven’t you wondered about the stories held within these walls? This is the Ev. Kirche Varrel. It stands as a testament to faith and community in Varrel and Wehrbleck.

The Kirchengemeinde Varrel is more than just a building. It is a living, breathing part of local history. Let me tell you a little more about it.

In 2024, the Kirchengemeinde Varrel grew. The previously independent Anstaltsgemeinde Freistatt was dissolved. Freistatt is now a parish district within the Kirchengemeinde Varrel. The Kirchengemeinde Varrel is located a few kilometers southwest of Sulingen. It includes about 1600 members from Varrel and Wehrbleck.

Because the Kirchengemeinde is connected with the Kirchengemeinde Barenburg, about three to four services are held each month. The Kirche St. Marien was newly dedicated in 1871 after a fire. It offers space for about 400 people.

The three glass windows in the altar area are particularly striking. The middle window is from 1998. It shows the story of Peter sinking.

But that’s not all. The Kirchengemeinde Varrel is closely linked to Freistatt. Together with Freistatt, Varrel and Barenburg, there is a trip to the Bielefeld district of Bethel. You can explore Bethel with its diaconal institutions, the theater workshop and the Brockensammlung. You get to know the origins and the center without which Bethel in the north and Freistatt would not be conceivable. The day ends with a trip to the Zionskirche, which is well worth seeing.

The bus for Varrel holds at the Pfarrhaus.

Today, the Ev. Kirche Varrel continues to be a welcoming place. It offers solace, community, and spiritual guidance to all who seek it. Its doors are open. Its history is rich. Its future is bright. As you continue your journey, remember the story of the Ev. Kirche Varrel. It is a beacon of hope in a changing world.
