Located at 1800 Market Street, the SF LGBT Center has been a beacon for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies since it opened its doors in March 2002. The Center’s mission is to connect the diverse LGBTQ+ community to opportunities, resources, and each other. They strive to create a stronger, healthier, and more equitable world for LGBTQ+ people and their allies. The SF LGBT Center offers a wide range of programs and services. These include economic development programs like housing assistance, financial services, and employment support. They also have youth services, offering mental health resources and housing programs. Community programs provide everything from information and referrals to arts and culture events and volunteer opportunities. The Center even offers building services, including event rental space, a computer lab, and space for partner organizations. This incredible organization operates on an annual budget of approximately $4.5 million. Funding comes from a mix of San Francisco city government grants, rental and event income, and donations. The SF LGBT Center occupies a unique and historically significant building. It’s housed in the Fallon Building, a designated landmark. This Victorian Queen Anne home and commercial building was constructed in 1894. A modern addition facing Market Street complements the historic structure. In 2016, the SF LGBT Center underwent a $6.5 million renovation to enhance its space. This project expanded areas for nonprofits leasing space and improved the lobby. Today, the SF LGBT Center stands as a testament to the ongoing struggle for equality and a vibrant celebration of community. It’s a place where people can connect, find support, and celebrate their identities.
