Fancy a swim? Here at Badestelle Störmthal, the Störmthaler See offers you refreshment. This beautiful lake enriches Leipzig’s Neuseenland since 2015.

Once, this area was a vast brown coal mine called Espenhain. Imagine a giant hole in the ground. Now, it’s a stunning lake with crystal-clear water. The Störmthaler See has even won awards for being one of the “Lieblingsseen” in Saxony.

The Störmthaler See covers an area of 7 square kilometers. That means you’ll find plenty of space to swim and relax. Choose from five designated bathing areas along the shore. The Badestelle Störmthal is located at the northeastern end of the lake.

But the Störmthaler See offers more than just swimming. It offers maritime flair and exciting activities. You can fly across the water with the Jetlev VINETA-Fly. If you prefer a less daring option, take an amphibian tour with the DUKW 353. This unique vehicle will show you the Störmthaler See on land and water.

The VINETA is a floating art installation. It has a 15-meter-high tower. It is the highest building on a German lake. The VINETA commemorates towns that were lost to the mine. You can even get married there.

Around the Störmthaler See, you will find a geological time path with steles. See the Butterfly sculpture made of plants.

Why is the Störmthaler See so special? It combines history, nature, and fun. It’s a place where you can relax and be active.

After your swim, explore the area. Visit the Bergbau-Technik-Park to learn about the mining history. Climb to the Aussichtspunkt Störmthal. Admire the views of the Störmthaler See, the VINETA, and colorful sailboats. Culture lovers should visit the church Störmthal. It is known for its Hildebrandt organ.

Feeling hungry? The Störmthaler See has many dining options. Visit the VINETA-Bistro on the Magdeborner Halbinsel. Or check out the restaurants in the area.

For a longer stay, consider the LAGOVIDA resort. Or spend a night in a beach chair.

If you are a hiker, walk around the lake. The Seerundweg is about 25 kilometers. It will take about six hours. You can also cycle, skate, or rollerblade along the paved path.

Whether you’re here for a day trip or a weekend, the Störmthaler See has something for everyone. So come and enjoy this beautiful lake. Have fun at the Störmthaler See.
