“Montéra? Never heard of it,” a gruff voice grumbles. Today, we explore the unassuming Rue Montera. Rue Montera resides in Paris’s 12th arrondissement. It sits quietly in the Bel-Air neighborhood. This street stretches 250 meters. Its width spans a modest 12 meters.

The story of Rue Montera begins before 1730. Back then, it existed as a simple path. By 1853, it began to take its current form. From 1853 to 1857, it was part of Saint-Mandé. It went by the name “Rue des Quatre-Bornes”.

Later, a decree changed everything. Rue des Quatre-Bornes became part of Paris. Between the railway line and Boulevard Soult, it gained a new identity. It was renamed Rue Montera.

The name “Montéra” comes from a local landowner. An interesting side note involves Impasse Montéra. This dead-end street once existed between Avenue de Saint-Mandé and the railway. Eventually, it merged with Rue Montera under the same name.

A unique feature bisects Rue Montera. The Petite Ceinture railway line crosses it. This adds an element of industrial history to the street’s character. Rue Montera offers access via the Metro line 1. The closest station is Porte de Vincennes. Tram line 3a also provides nearby access. Several bus lines serve the street, too. These include lines 26, 351, 56, 64, and 86.

Rue Montera is not just a street. It is a slice of Parisian history. It connects residents to the city’s pulse. From its humble beginnings as a path to its current state, Rue Montera has evolved. Today, Rue Montera stands as a testament to the city’s ever-changing story.
