Listen closely a tale of transformation unfolds before us at SEGRO Park Beckton. Once a landfill site unused for over 40 years it now stands as a thriving business hub. This is a story of regeneration job creation and community investment.
SEGRO Park Beckton is more than just an industrial park. It is a testament to what can be achieved through vision and partnership. The 86-acre East Plus programme sought to revitalise brownfield land across East London. SEGRO Park Newham emerged as the first fully regenerated industrial park within this ambitious project.
In 2015 SEGRO was selected by the Greater London Authority as its development partner. Their mission was to deliver 1.4 million sq ft of modern industrial space. This was to be achieved on brownfield land across Newham Barking & Dagenham and Havering. SEGRO Park Newham became a resounding success story.
The transformation involved a significant investment of £34 million. This investment resulted in the creation of over 250 long-term jobs in a major growth area of London. The park boasts sustainability features including photovoltaic cells and electric vehicle charging points.
DHL and DPD were among the first businesses to recognise the potential of SEGRO Park Newham. DHL leased a 51500 sq ft unit and DPD selected a 45000 sq ft unit for its first last-mile facility in London.
Adding to the park’s appeal a new 113-room Travelodge hotel was built. This Travelodge is the second hotel developed in partnership with SEGRO. It provides accommodation for those working in the area and visitors alike. The London Beckton Travelodge features premium economy SuperRooms and an onsite Bar Cafè.
SEGRO’s commitment extends beyond physical development. Over £2 million has been invested into the local supply chain. This investment benefits local businesses and stimulates local growth. Furthermore over £70000 has been donated to 14 Newham charities. These donations enable the charities to provide skills and employment support to over 1000 local residents.
SEGRO Park Newham stands as a beacon of progress. It exemplifies how a former wasteland can be transformed into a vibrant economic hub. It is a place where businesses thrive jobs are created and the community benefits. As we stand here we witness the tangible results of vision investment and a commitment to regeneration. The success of SEGRO Park Beckton underscores the potential for similar projects to revitalise communities and drive economic growth. It’s a reminder that even the most challenging sites can be transformed into valuable assets with the right approach.
