Have you ever heard of a man who voiced a beloved cartoon character, starred in countless films, and was a passionate advocate for peace? His name is Claude Piéplu, and this is his story.

Claude Piéplu was a French actor, voice actor, and peace activist. He was known for his dry wit, his distinctively high-pitched voice, and his ability to portray the common man on stage and screen. He was born in Paris and began his career as a bank clerk, but his true vocation was on the stage, where he made his debut in 1945. He was a prolific actor, performing in over 175 plays, and he also enjoyed a successful career in film, appearing in over forty movies.

But for many people in France, Claude Piéplu is forever associated with his role as the voice of the Shadoks. These silly, bird-like creatures from another planet were the stars of a popular animated series that aired on television in the 1960s and 1970s. Claude Piéplu’s unique voice added a playful touch to the series, which became a beloved part of French culture.

Claude Piéplu’s career stretched across many decades, and he worked with some of the most famous directors in French cinema, including Louis de Funès, Claude Chabrol, and Luis Buñuel. He was also known for his commitment to social causes, and he was a member of the World Council of Peace. He died in Paris on May 25, 2006, at the age of 83.

This is where he rests, in the 84th division of the Parisian cemetery of Bagneux. He is remembered for his talent, his humor, and his dedication to peace. And if you listen closely, you can almost hear the chuckle of the Shadoks, coming from their planet on the other side of the galaxy.
