Established in 1945 Hilltop Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith. Its origins trace back to a group of determined individuals. They envisioned a spiritual presence along the main road towards the coal-mining towns known as The Gulf. This wasn’t just about building a church. It was about establishing a strong biblical foundation. A foundation that continues to support the church’s mission today.
Hilltop Baptist Church isn’t just a building. It’s a place of rich history. Rev M F Wendelkin led the church’s organization. Rev Earl Harvey became its first pastor. He later became a missionary sent out from Hilltop to Haiti. This shows the church’s early commitment to spreading its message. Over the years numerous pastors have guided the congregation. This includes Rev William Martin Rev Rubin Rev W O Cadle and others. The current pastor is Rev Wade L Samples Jr.
The church has grown both spiritually and numerically. It’s played an important role in the lives of many. Several ministers and missionaries have served the Lord because of their time at Hilltop. The impact extends beyond the immediate area. It reaches people around the world. The Sunday School program the Bus Ministry and the Vacation Bible School have touched thousands. The church’s Ladies Prayer time and Bible Study group have also had a significant spiritual influence.
Hilltop Baptist Church has a strong tradition of missionary work. Currently they support two missionary families. Ron and Nancy Johnson serve in Brazil. Vlad and Julia Kozoubovkii serve in a restricted country. In total the church supports 21 missionaries worldwide. This global outreach reflects their enduring commitment to the Great Commission. It’s a dedication that shows no signs of stopping.
