Imagine a time capsule buried in 1986. It holds the hopes and dreams of Fuchun Secondary School’s first 109 students. This school started with a small group. It quickly grew into an important part of Woodlands.

Fuchun Secondary School, or FCSS, opened its doors on January 2, 1986. The campus cost S$7.3 million. It was officially opened in August 1987. Lee Yiok Seng was there. He was a Senior Parliamentary Secretary.

Fuchun’s history is full of change. In 1991, it set up the first Lower Secondary Macintosh laboratory. Teachers used computers to teach math. Students learned how to use different software programs.

In 1992, Fuchun excelled. It ranked second for value-addedness among many schools. This showed the school’s commitment to helping students grow. That same year, Fuchun participated in the Singapore Youth Festival. Lower Secondary girls performed a mass dance. They also performed at National Day Celebrations. The first school newsletter, Fuchun News, came out in January 1992.

Work experience started in 1995. Secondary Three students worked at the Singapore Zoological Gardens. Later, students worked with Baxter Healthcare Private Limited.

Mr. Johari Mohd Rais became the new principal in 1996. Fuchun was named “Most Improved Neighbourhood School.” An extension building opened in 1998. It had new computer labs and classrooms.

The first annual school magazine came out in 2001. The Performing Arts Studio officially opened.

Fuchun Secondary School offers many co-curricular activities or CCAs. These include sports like basketball, football, and netball. There are also uniformed groups like the Boy’s Brigade and Girl Guides. Visual and performing arts options include Concert Band, Choir, and various dance groups. Clubs like the Green Club and Infocomm Club are also available.

The school has a Character Development programme. There is also a Student Leadership programme. These programs aim to build character in students. Fuchun also supports students with an afternoon tutorial programme. It offers structured study time. The school is known for its Performing Arts focus. This helps students develop their talents.

Somaline Ang is a notable alumni. She is an actress with Mediacorp.

Fuchun Secondary School is located at 21 Woodlands Avenue 1. You can reach it by bus or MRT. The nearest MRT station is Marsiling. The school’s motto is “Strive for Excellence”. It aims to give students a well-rounded education.

In 2024, Fuchun Secondary School will merge with Woodlands Ring Secondary School. It will move to Woodlands Ring Secondary School’s location. This change marks a new chapter. Yet, the spirit of Fuchun will continue. Its legacy of striving for excellence will live on.
