But there’s more to Drag\u00f8r Municipality than just fishing. In the early 16th century, King Christian II invited Dutch farmers. They were from a more advanced agricultural nation. He wanted them to produce food for the royal household. Twenty-four families arrived. They settled in Store Magleby. This Dutch connection is still evident. There’s even a friendly rivalry between Drag\u00f8r and Store Magleby. Those Dutch farmers introduced the carrot to Denmark.
Drag\u00f8r became its own parish in 1954. Before that, it was part of Store Magleby parish. In 1974, Drag\u00f8r merged with Store Magleby.
Today, Drag\u00f8r Municipality covers 18.41 square kilometers. It had a population of 14,569 people in January 2024. The mayor is Kenneth G\u00f8tterup.
