Did you ever hear of a church that started on a vacant lot? That’s the origin story of North Cities United Pentecostal Church. Right here in Garland, Texas, in the summer of 1941, Reverend J. D. Drain and his wife, Myrtle, began holding religious meetings on an empty piece of land. After two weeks, Reverend Drain felt a calling to establish a permanent church. So, they bought the lot and started construction. The first service in the new building at 521 West Avenue E was held in April 1944. North Cities United Pentecostal Church wasn’t always at its current location. The church has experienced significant growth and several relocations throughout its history. A few years later, Evangelist C. P. Kilgore led a revival at North Cities United Pentecostal Church. During this revival, 40 people were baptized. As the congregation expanded, a new sanctuary was built in 1956. A fellowship hall and Sunday school building were added in 1960. More growth followed, leading to another move. In 1990, under the leadership of Reverend D. G. Hargrove, the church acquired land at 502 Belt Line Road. The current building held its first service in November 1997. North Cities United Pentecostal Church continued to thrive at its new location. The sanctuary was expanded in 2002. The church acquired additional land and an annex facility on Kingsbridge. Today, North Cities United Pentecostal Church is a vibrant, multicultural church serving the North Dallas region. It offers services on Sundays at 9 and 11 a.m. and Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. They strive to connect people to God, to each other, and to their purpose.
