Tucked away in West Auckland, the Socolich Stream meanders through the landscape. It’s a quiet presence, a testament to the Dalmatian settlers who shaped this area. Bogoslav Sokolich, a name echoing the stream itself, arrived in New Zealand and purchased land in Fruitvale Road in 1920. Two years later, he bought his first truck. This marked the beginning of B. Sokolich Contractors, the first of its kind in the district. His fleet expanded to six trucks in the 1930s, hauling materials for road construction, perhaps even contributing to the roads we travel today near Socolich Stream. The Socolich Stream represents not just a waterway, but the spirit of these early settlers. Their legacy lives on, intertwined with the very land they cultivated. Socolich Stream is a whisper of their past, a gentle flow through the heart of their community.
